On Tuesday November 22nd, 2016 CMHDS Members toured Best Buy Canada?s Distribution Centre in Langley, B.C.
The facility had recently implemented a 5S Workplace Organization Program throughout the operation. The 5S’s are Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. During the tour attendees saw first-hand examples of the program at work. (Note: In January 2017 the CMHDS will be holding a 5S Breakfast where Best Buy Management will talk about how they created and implemented the 5S Program.)
Best Buy’s product lines are at the top of a lot of peoples Christmas wish lists, so attendees had the opportunity to view the building during its busiest season of the year, where volumes are routinely 200%+ of normal.
Also with security an increasing concern for many warehouses these days and with a facility full of some of the most sought after electronics on the planet, Best Buy needs to ensure their company is protected. One strategy attendees experienced was the ‘full body scanners’ when leaving the facility.
“Great tour! The tour guide was very detailed in his explanation of each area.
Super clean building!”
“The tour was very informative and demonstrated the outcomes that can be achieved by having a plan of action and sticking to it with regard to the 5S program. Well done.”
“Great tour! Wow, if 5S is the formula for cleanliness they nailed it.”
