On Wednesday April 23rd, 2014 Shane Hopkins-Utter, member of the Blair Law Group, spoke about ‘DUE DILIGENCE AND THE LAW’.
While most managers and supervisors are aware of the need to ensure worker safety, many are unaware of their legal responsibilities and what that means to their daily activities.
Occupational Health and Safety law in B.C. requires that supervisors be knowledgeable about the legal requirements applicable to the work they are supervising.
Individuals can be prosecuted, fined and in some cases jailed in cases of injury or death in the workplace. Due diligence is both a defence to most regulatory offences, and a system to ensure ongoing compliance and safety in the workplace.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn their responsibilities, the legal defence of due diligence, the components of an effective Due Diligence Program and how to make sure they, and their company, are compliant with the law.
