March 29, 2012 – Safety In The Warehousing Subsector

WorkSafeBC partnered with FIOSA-MIOSA Safety Alliance of BC and the CMHDS to present this free half-day training session designed specifically for the warehousing sector. The session focused on providing the organization leaders with tools they can use to improve safety performance in their workplace.

Between 2006 and 2010, injured workers in the warehousing sub-sector accounted for:

  • More than 1650 time-loss claims
  • Almost 55,000 days lost from work
  • More than $12 million in claims costs

Improving safety in your workplace can lead to:

  • Lower workplace insurance costs – you could earn a discount of up to 50% on your premiums
  • Reduced workplace injuries – safe work procedures will decrease the number of injuries
  • Improved productivity – healthy workers are more likely to produce at a high level
  • Consistent quality of work – keeping experienced workers at work will ensure consistency

Topics included:

  • FIOSA Introduction and Background
  • Forklift Training – Best Practices & Forklift Rally
  • Electric Pallet Jack Training – Best Practices
  • Musculoskeletal Injury (MSI) Prevention
